I have had the mantra for a number of years that a business should be partnered with at least 1 non-profit organization. Sometimes that partnership starts with an individual suggesting it. In my case, I am the individual and the business. There are several non-profits that I have supported in some way over the years. Currently there are 3 that I am actively involved with. 1 is my church. I volunteer there often and in a few positions. I also give financially when I can and always at a minimum of a tithe (a tenth). Another is an organization called Feed My Starving Children. It is an organization that helps those in extreme poverty have a healthy meal so they can live another day and beyond. The food goes to people who cannot handle a regular meal as we would enjoy as their last regular meal was months or years ago if they ever had one at all. They also help out those in dire situations as can happen to refugees or victims of natural disasters. This might be the initial lifeline so they can work to rebuild their lives instead of spending their days scavenging for food. It is an organization that my son and I volunteer at often. It is a service project for his homeschooling that he enjoys doing. The final one is Compassion International. It is an organization that I have known about for over 20 years. I finally started sponsoring 3 boys about 5 years ago. I will tell people on occasion that I have 4 boys. I have my son and my 3 Compassion boys. It is an organization that I have believed in for years and partner with them both through sponsorship and volunteering at various events they are a part of (usually concerts). Compassion works to end extreme poverty and empower children to be able to live their dreams.
In addition to the traditional child sponsorship that Compassion is known for, they help provide materials so that families of these children can become self-sufficient. Compassion does various fundraisers that help financially support these endeavors. 1 of those fundraisers is the Walk With Compassion. They have various walks around the US planned this year. My son and I are participating in the Twin Cities Walk With Compassion on June 25. It is a way for us to help those in extreme poverty get a proper helping hand so they can take the next step to becoming self-sufficient. We walk to help provide a voice for those without one.
